Singapore Central Region Central Area

Singapore is divided into 55 planning areas grouped into 5 regions. Central Region has 22 planning areas. 11 planning areas are within the Central Area considered the city centre of Singapore.

Boat Quay

Boat Quay is the centre of trade and commerce since founding of mordern Singapore till 1960s when container ports are used. The area been converted into a enterainment area with the trading offices converting into pubs and retail shops.

Coleman Bridge

The Dalhousie Obelisk was built in 1850 by local merchants and traders to commemorate Governor-General of India, Marquis of Dalhousie's visit to Singapore from 1848 to 1856. It was moved to this present site in 1909.

Elgin Bridge

Ancestral Hall of the Tan Clan

The Hokkien architectural style Ancestral Hall was built in 1876 to serve the Tan clan.

The fort was completed in 1861 and demolished in 1907.

The Sally Ports were used to allow access to the fort undetected. This is the only remaining one.

This building was Singapore Armed Forces' Singapore Command and Staff Collage from 1970 to 1976.

Fort Canning Keramat Iskandar Shah

The Keramat Iskandar Shah is the symoblic tomb of Sultan Iskandar Shah who was the 14th century King of Singapura who fled to Malacca in 1398 due to a naval invasion by the Majapahit Empire. He founded the Malacca Sultanate.

Keng Teck Whay was a association established in 1831 by a group of Hokkien Peranakan merchants from Malacca to help the society. The building is deisgned in traditional Hokkien style.

The Mosque has an Indo-Islamic architectural design with two tall minarets in front. The Mosque was established in 1827 to cater to Tamil immigrants. The current Mosque was built in 1855.

Little India

The area started off with indian immigrants rearing cattle in the 1840s. By 1900s, the Little India start to form as the indian community grew.

Abdul Gafoor Mosque

The Mosque was built in 1907 with Saracenic and Neoclassic design. It serves the Tamil muslims around the areas those working in the former old race course at Farrer Park.

Angullia Mosque is an indian muslim mosque. It is named after Mohammed Salleh Eussoof Angullia who donated the land for the mosque in 1890.

Kampong Glam

Kampong Glam was designated as an area for the malays and arabs communities. The area started to develop as commerical activities and immigrants increases.

Built in 1835, this building was originally the Istana Kampong Glam belonging to Sultan of Johor. It is now a museum on Malay Heritage.

Nanyang Sacred Union

The Nanyang Sacred Union pays homage to Confucius. It is the first Confucius Assoication in Singapore when the Straits Sacred Union was formed in 1914 and renamed after WWII.

Hong San See Temple

The temple was built in 1913 by Hokkien immigrants from China Fujian Province's Nan'an county. The temple was built in tradtional Hokkien acrchitectural style.
